The Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary of Namyang
The cathedral, built at the Namyang Virgin Mary Shrine to pray for the unification and peace of North and South Korea, was designed through collaboration between world-renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta and lighting design company Bitzro & Partners. Mario Botta designed the cathedral's interior structure and window arrangement to allow as much natural light as possible. To maintain the effect of natural light even at night, Archion L1 linear lighting was installed in the main hall. This lighting creates the feeling of soft sunlight pouring in even at night, breaking down the walls between day and night and making the interior of the cathedral a sacred space at all times. Additionally, Archion P3 inground lighting was installed at the cathedral entrance to obscure the unbalanced placement of bricks on the two towers. This lighting gently illuminates the wall using asymmetrical optics, highlighting the texture and color of the wall while helping to avoid visual imbalances. Archion P3 is equipped with micro-louvers to effectively control glare for those inside the cathedral, allowing visitors to experience the space comfortably. In addition, it is installed at the bottom of the exterior building, serving as a point that further highlights the overall grandeur of the Namyang Virgin Mary Cathedral.
