Nodeul Island Moonlight Nodeul
The city of Seoul has installed a massive artificial moon named "Moonlight Nodeul" on the abandoned dock of Nodeul Island in the Han River. This circular structure has a diameter of 12 meters and aims to create a public space that enhances the city's energy by sparking people's curiosity through the familiar yet intriguing appearance of the moon. Unlike a traditional sphere, Moonlight Nodeul consists of two circular structures leaning against each other for support. This design is tailored to the unique characteristics of the site, as it is built on water rather than solid ground. Additionally, it creates a lunar landscape that shifts based on the viewer's perspective. The circular metal structure features 45,318 holes of various sizes, allowing sunlight to filter through and reflect, thereby illuminating the moon's shape over the Han River. At night, internal lights create a stunning view reminiscent of a moon halo. Lighting solutions for this installation were provided by Archion. Custom Archion L3 lighting fixtures were installed inside the structure, each designed to adjust illumination according to the season and time via DMX dimming. Archion P2 lighting fixtures were placed along the pedestrian walkway; these are equipped with micro-louvers to minimize glare for passersby. Additionally, indirect lighting has been incorporated into the long wooden deck and the stairs inside and outside the installation, providing a comfortable space for citizens to relax.
